1949 - 1982 is not 70 years I think but 33! ;) However, you're right, he was a great one. Sadly, he passed away relatively young at the age of 64. He died on stage during an appearance with Jimmie Rodgers Snow on the Opry in 1984.

You're right, not a peaceful ending. The only other musician who died on stage I'm aware of is Fate Norris, banjo player for the Skillet Lickers and other related groups during the 1920s. He played a March of Dimes concert in Georgia in the 1940s, before saying "I'm not Afraid" and then tumbling down on the floor.
