Ring Dang Doo

Here's one of those 'adult party records' you've heard about. I have found a lot of oddball crap like this in my recent travels. It's great because it seems like nobody wants this stuff, they can be found in the bargain bins for next to nothing. I think i paid a quarter for this one, and it's in near mint condition. It was probably never even played before i got my hands on it.
As usual, i don't know anything about the (and i use the term loosely) artist, but it doesn't really matter anyway. You get what you pay for, And i got my moneys worth on this one for sure.

Enjoy!

get it

Great little dirty song originated from the old folk era by dirty Canadian folkie Oscar Brand in 1956,& resurrected by Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs in 1965. Somehow, AM stations overlooked the song's original dirty meanings, & somehow sent Sam's version into the top 40. It's amazing what will happen when some censors don't pay close attention to the origin of the lyrics.

Yes, MGM records did issue a cover version of "Ring Dang Doo" as the follow up to "Ju Ju Hand" on the black MGM label with Leo The Lion on the top of the label(The original release number was #13397, & reached Billboard's Top 40 in November 1965, topping out at #33.)It also appeared on the MGM album "Sam The Sham on Tour" (1965),& "The Best Of Sam The Sham & The Pharoahs compilation disc on MGM in 1967 (later re-issued by Polydor Records in 1982.)

Wow!!....You've got the two "Ring Dang Doo"'s mixed-up. They are ENTIRELY two different tunes..
Sam's version starts off with:"You can have you rings and your Diamonds too.....all I want is a Ring Dang Do"
Again.....only using the same name, this song has nothing in common with the Sam The Sham and The Pharoahs version.

Note To Talent agent: Yes, I know they were two different versions of the same song. The original "dirty" version was derived from Oscar Brands' original 1956 version, while Sam the Sham had to make a few changes on his cover to secure airplay. No D-J would play Oscar Brand on the radio at the time because his lyrics were too sexually-oriented, even in his hometown of Winnipeg,Manitoba. The Dirty 1/2 Dozen covered theirs from Brand's original, with no guarentee of airplay on the radio, except maybe Barrett "Dr. Demento" Hansen, who would dare censors with dirty records of comedy. This explains how some radio stations dropped his radio show in the early 1990's. You can hear them uncensored on sattelite Serius-Radio, though. Also, the Pharoahs meant theirs as a Rock & Roll song, while Brand's original was meant as a folk song adopted from an origial source (in this case, the brothel houses of the Civil War era 1860-1865.) It was oibvious changes had to be made to get over Top 40 censors' heads.
