Man, that giant sticker on this one kills me. There's no way it's coming off without ruining the label. I haven't tried, but i'm afraid to mess with it. Not only that, it hangs out into the last groove so if you aren't paying attention the needle catches it and sends the arm spinning wildly off into the center of the label...
Ahh well. What can you do. It's is the Karate Boo-ga-loo after all. I guess i'll just have to deal with it.
get it

8 shout outs:
Nice sound anyway, Jeff! Do you know what year this was released?
Funnily enough, a totally different song from The Emperors featured on Derek's blog a week ago.
Anyway, I'm still a great fan of the '60s dance craze!
Do the karate BOOGALOO!
Marie-
I have no idea what year, but if i had to make an educated guess i'd say 1967, which is the same year that The Emperors 'Karate' came out (Stay tuned for that one in the next day or so.)
Dewey-
I saw/heard that one on Derek's Daily too. The Emperors record i have is yet another (and better if you ask me) Karate themed dance tune than the one Derek posted.
I usually try to limit new purchases to a dollar a record or less, usually a lot less, but when i found this i couldn't say no to it. I actually forked over a whopping $3.50 for this one. It goes against the whole 'Junk shop' theme, but sometimes you gotta break the rules a little bit. It was well worth it...
Thanks Jeff, you're probably right about the date - I really like this one! Marie
Lighter fluid.
Bookstores use it to clean their inventory of books. Well used to use it, when bookstores still existed. Water based solvents will get soaked up by the paper fibers and shrivel and shrink and never be smooth and flat again. Lighter fluid won't get soaked up like that. When it evaporates, paper will be as smooth and flat as before. Also lighter fluid won't weaken the fibers so there is less a chance of tearing.
66, 67, or 68; it doesn't matter which year, the ink should be dry by now. And lighter fluid isn't so strong as to dissolve it.
If you have and old crappy really scratched record test it out on it first. But I think you would have success using lighter fluid. Working in small increments, standard lose leaf notebook hole size, dabbing with a Q-tip, trying to get underneath the sticker. gently lift and then blot.
I have no idea how lighter fluid would affect t"he label glue and the record's "vinyl material. But those effects could be found out by testing on another record.
Always a fave of mine. I'm pretty sure it was '67. I think it actually charted on Billboard too if memory serves. Possibly in the top 100.
Karate Boogaloo.... Hmm, ya don't say.
Also- Thanks Charlie for the advise. I'll try out lighter fluid on a crummy old record first and see what happens.
